THE FOUNDATIONS AND SOURCES
OF ONESMARTWORLD®

by Bob Wiele, founder and President, OneSmartWorld®

The OneSmartWorld® system is built upon four foundation blocks.

The first and the most important foundation, is the personal spirit, insight, creativity and perseverance of Dan Clements and Lynn Iles who worked as true team mates with me in the two years it took to create the OneSmartWorld® vision and performance solution.  Their contribution was significant every step of the way -- in the research, development and implementation of the OneSmartWorld® conceptual model, the 4D-i® profile and coaching system, the training programs and the e-tools.

The second foundation is the ongoing dialogue and support from a remarkable group of friends and colleagues who provided feedback and support through many of the challenges and obstacles.  They were all committed to us and our vision of helping people, teams and organizations succeed.

The third foundation is my 35 years of experience in working face to face with more than 100,000 people in conference sessions, organizational change projects, corporate training workshops and personal high performance improvement initiatives.

The fourth foundation is the work of many writers and researchers in the field of human performance improvement who have influenced my thinking and writing in the development of the OneSmartWorld® system.  I hope that our work makes a contribution to the field that they have cleared.

I owe special thanks to the pioneering writings of Jerry Rhodes, Robert Sternberg, and Chogyam Trungpa. Rhodes and Sternberg both delineated three primary types of thinking styles.  Rhodes’ work on effective intelligence is the finest work I know of, for mapping the true landscape of thinking mind at work.  I have dedicated 11 years to bringing his work to people and organizations across North America, under the SmartSkills® banner.  Our company is committed to Jerry Rhodes and we continue actively to promote his work.  To the late Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, I owe deep gratitude for showing me the importance of compassion, giving me skilful means for training the mind, and awakening the heart.

The sources cited below were all consulted or drawn from in the creation of the OneSmartWorld® conceptual model and in the development of the 18 strategies and the three success factors. They are organized around the four dimensions in the 4D-i® model.
