Competency #1: Personal Spirit
The focus of this core competency is based on the key inner self-management skills needed to develop personal spirit and resilience to manage change, as well as stress, successfully. The skills include:
- Personal Outlook: the importance and impact of attitude and one’s outlook on self-efficacy, performance and success. Skills for shifting the student’s outlook from negative to positive are drawn from research on fixed vs. growth mindsets and positive psychology.
- Sense of Control: an essential inner skill for coping with pressure and change to increase resilience and stress mastery. Students will learn transformational coping mindsets and other, simple self-management techniques to manage anxiety and achieve focus.
- Initiative: a core skill for achieving high performance. Skills focus on when and how to deliver exceptional results by going above and beyond job requirements.
- Developing Resilience: simple techniques for managing stressful situations.
- Personal Development Planning: how to develop personal learning plans and simple techniques to sustain behavioral change.
