Competency #4: Communication
The focus of this core competency is to expand one’s capacity to work effectively with people who have different operating styles in diverse educational and workplace environments. The emphasis is on:
- How to detect the operating style of others: identify behavioral cues that indicate where the other person is coming from. Educate students to understand others as well as themselves.
- How to expand one’s own repertoire of skills: connect effectively with others who have a different operating style. Learn how to build better relationships with people who think differently than you.
- How to use smart questions: increase skills in dialogue by learning how to use smart questions to build rapport and collaborate with others to solve problems.
- How to work effectively in the moment with others: shift one’s mindset in the moment to decrease conflict while increasing student success.
- How to improve presentation skills and interview results: practice presenting to others by using the mindsets and skills. Practice to improve job interview results.
